A small dark Lesser Black-backed Gull on Bull Hill was possibly 'intermedius' but there weren't too many terns when I visited today - just 78+ Sandwich Tern and 6 Common Tern.
Three fairly short looks offshore from the raised beach huts today - the first with Nick and Derek. Totals were disappointing with the weather conditions not quite living up to expectation. Visibility wasn't great either. Records included up to 8 Arctic Skua (though perhaps as few as four lingering), 12 Common Scoter, c30+ Sandwich Tern, 4+ Common Tern, 7 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 1 Peregrine, 11 shearwater sp, 2 Teal, 3+ Mediterranean Gull, 1 Balearic Shearwater and 15+ Manx Shearwater - not a patch on the counts done a short way west of us at Dawlish Warren and Berry Head.
Off Mudbank - 9 Redshank, 3 juvenile Shoveler, 160 Mallard, 1 Mediterranean Gull and 13+ Whimbrel.
Pale Prominent - got to love this whacky 'dolphinesque' species! This was in the trap yesterday morning, along with the species pictured below:
Oak Bent-wing - Bucculatrix ulmella
That's my thumb to give you an idea of just how small this 'micro' is - I'd estimate it's c4-5mm in length.
Garden Rose Tortrix
Iron Prominent
