Migrant Hawker

Migrant Hawker - Orcombe Point.

Things are slowly improving on the bird front but it's still not great and the heat is pretty unpleasant. On Orcombe, on the 7/8 - a mix of migrant and presumed residents included just 2 Swallows, 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, 1+ Sedge Warbler and 1 Whitethroat. Also 2 Clouded Yellow butterflies. Off Mudbank - 160+ Mallard, 34+ Whimbrel and the Dark-bellied Brent Goose.
On 8/8 - Orcombe totals included 4+ Blackcaps, 5 Chiffchaffs, 2 Whitethroats, 2+ Sedge Warblers and a flock of 15 Goldfinches. Off Mudbank - 37 Whimbrel, 1 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, the first-summer Yellow-legged Gull, 115+ Mallard, 3 Dunlin, 550+ Black-headed Gulls and 4 Common Gulls.
This morning on Orcombe - 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 2 Willow Warblers, 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Whitethroat and a couple Clouded Yellows. Off Mudbank - 270+ Mallard, 4 Teal, 1 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 160+ Curlew, 27 Black-tailed Godwits, 26 Whimbrel, 2 Ringed Plover, 1 Peregrine and the first-summer Yellow-legged Gull

The bulk of this evening's 27-strong flock of Black-tailed Godwits - the first autumn flock.

Golden-rod Pug - my third garden record of this subtle species.

Haworth's Pug. Remarkably fresh so possibly 2nd brood?

Grey Gorse Piercer Cydia ulicetana. I see masses of these on the commons but they rarely venture into the garden.

My first Turnip of the summer.

Round-leaved Sundew in flower.

Nightjar.

Pale-streak Grass-veneer Agriphila selasella.

White-headed Ermine Paraswammerdamia albicapitella.

Another Bordered Straw and equally as immaculate as the others, perhaps suggesting they're locally hatched?

Vestal - Orcombe Point. Looking quite at home in conditions more akin to southern Europe than the UK.
