BLH

At long last the local Broad-leaved Helleborines are starting to flower. I 've now found fourteen spikes which is down on the last couple of years, but there may still be more to discover. Some of them are very stunted, and have been hammered by slugs, and others are still a long way off flowering. I also had a quick look around Liverton Copse, but could only locate one plant. Unfortunately these beautiful orchids need a bit of breathing space and are easily choked out by bramble growth and other fast-growing understory.

Off Mudbank this afternoon - 9 Mallard (hopefully the start of the late summer build-up), 1 Dark-bellied Brent Goose and 3 Mediterranean Gulls. A Greenshank flew over the house, calling, as I went through the moth trap, before work this morning.
Yesterday - 500+ Black-headed Gulls, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Whimbrel and a Bar-tailed Godwit. A flock of 10 Sand Martins flew downriver.

Scallop Shell. A breathtakingly gorgeous 'geometrid' and one of my absolute favourites.

Kent Black Arches. I'm catching quite a few of these at the moment.

One Dark-bellied Brent Goose remains.
