Little Gull and Hobby

Hobby with House Martin. Unlike the rest of this year's five previous birds, which all tracked east, this bird circled directly over the house before drifting south, over the town. Unfortunately the light wasn't great so it's just silhouettes I'm afraid.

From the garden this morning - 1 Whitethroat, (singing male back on territory), 5 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 1 first-summer Little Gull (feeding on river from 0900-0910 and then roosting on Cockle Sands with Sandwich Terns and Black-headed Gulls from 1120 'til past midday), 1 Hobby (south at 0950), 15+ Black-headed Gull, 1 first-summer Common Gull, 15+ Sandwich Tern, 2+ Whimbrel, 6 Curlew,  2 Canada Goose, 1 Red Kite (south-east at 1203), 2 Ring-necked Parakeet and 2 Mute Swan.

One of two Ring-necked Parakeets at the back of our house this morning, making unbelievably rapid flights between stands of trees. Present for about 10 minutes before moving on, having flown across from Lower Halsdon Farm (which is behind the line of poplars in the background).

  2. Hi Nick - good to hear from you. Hope you and the family are all keeping well. I have to say the lock-down has been enjoyable and I don't mean that disrespectfully, with all the awful problems it's causing. I'm finding the change from the chaotic, stressful and demanding world of teaching to much more flexible home-working very enjoyable! I've still got stuff to do, and I'm still going in to school on a rota, but I'm doing way less than I normally would be and that's rather nice after twenty something years of 'go go go'. How's things work-wise with you? All the best. Matt
