Sea

Kittiwake - Mudbank.

I watched the sea, from the raised beach huts, from dawn 'til about 0825. Hundreds of Gannets and auks flew south, alongside 45 Balearic Shearwaters, 440+ Kittiwakes and lots of Black-headed Gulls. Thirteen Common Scoters went south and 12 went east, and 4 Sandwich Terns were offshore. Disappointing not to get any skuas.
A flock of 26 Pied Wagtails was on the cricket pitch but I could only find 1 Wheatear and 3 Swallows on a 'blown-out' Orcombe Point.
Mudbank totals included an impressive 320 Pintail, 430 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 10 Teal, 7 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Sandwich Terns, 3 Black Swans, 1 Kittiwake, 55+ Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshank and 1 Redshank. Nearby, the juvenile Whinchat was still at West Lodge.

Sandwich Tern - Mudbank.

Wheatear - Orcombe Point.

This Clouded Yellow was being buffeted around in the breeze, on Orcombe this morning.

The juvenile Whinchat is still posing beautifully at the West Lodge reedbed.
