Knot

Two Knot on Maer Rocks early this morning - cold grey birds on a cold grey day, but a novelty to watch this species close-up. My usual views are of distant grey 'blobs' off Mudbank. Also on the rocks - 10 Turnstones and at least 8 Purple Sandpipers. Two Dark-bellied Brent Geese flew past and 6 Black-tailed Godwits flew over, heading east. Nearby in the Maer long-stay carpark - 3 Chiffchaffs and 4 Ring-necked Parakeets providing a little injection of colour.
A quick look at the top fields, on Orcombe, produced a lone Lapwing, the wintering juvenile Cirl Bunting, 7 Redwing, 1 Chiffchaff and a couple Rock Pipits.
Lu and I walked the dog before football and confirmed the presence of 2 Cetti's Warblers along the cycle track. I wouldn't completely rule out there being more.
Joel's football match was in Heavitree, so whilst he warmed up Lu and I walked to the end of Ludwell Valley where six Green Sandpipers were logged.

Purple Sandpiper.
