Gulls

Lu and I walked down to the beach this morning. This rather beautiful juvenile Yellow-legged Gull (complete with some nice new first-winter scapulars) made an all too brief appearance off the lifeboat station, before flying towards the Warren.

Mudbank today - oddities were a juvenile Common Gull, single Teal and a juvenile Kittiwake. Otherwise - c160 Mallard, 2 Wigeon, 24 Whimbrel, c40 Sandwich Terns and 3 Common Terns. Exmouth beach - 3 Mediterranean Gulls, 1 juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Sanderling and 1 Turnstone.
Yesterday off Mudbank - 180+ Mallard, 2 Wigeon and 1 Mediterranean Gull.
27/7 - 6 Great Crested Grebes, 27 Whimbrel and 2 Dunlin.

Much more unusual to see a Common Gull in juvenile plumage at this time of year than a Yellow-legged Gull. This bird was off Mudbank this afternoon, along with a second, older bird.

Adult Sanderlings - Maer Rocks. Turnstone below.

Two Wigeon off Mudbank. Perhaps the pair that were on Cockle Sands on July 15th.

Painted Lady - Mudbank.

Juvenile Mediterranean Gull - Exmouth beach this morning.
