Bowling Green

I cycled to Bowling Green for this afternoon's high tide. This moulting, adult Curlew Sandpiper was a very pleasant surprise. It's a species I very rarely see in Exmouth and all my records have been of juveniles. As you can see, a Spoonbill was also present as was the long-staying Spotted Redshank, now in winter plumage. Otherwise, good numbers of Black-tailed Godwits and Redshank with 9 Greenshank, a few Whimbrel and Dunlin, along with at least 1 Lapwing plus a small number of Teal and Shoveler. Really nice to see Paul Bray as always. Many thanks for letting me look through your scope Paul!

Off Mudbank earlier today - 4 Common Gulls, 1 Mediterranean Gull, the third-summer Yellow-legged Gull, 86 Canada Geese, 17 Whimbrel and 2 Wigeon. Mallard numbers have leapt once again with c280 birds present.

The Spot Red now stands out for being pale whereas a month ago it stood out for being completely dark.
