Cydia fagiglandana

Large Beech Piercer Cydia fagiglandana - netted on Woodbury common yesterday evening, during a fruitless search for Gold Swift. This is a common species but, like countless others, I've not encountered it before.

Off the seafront this morning - none of the good stuff but hundreds of Herring Gulls and a few Black-headed Gulls and Mediterranean Gulls. Also - a flock of c60 Kittiwakes and 2 Little Egrets flying towards the river.
Yesterday off there - 2 Sandwich Terns, 15+ Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Common Scoters as well as a large aggregation of gulls. Off Mudbank - 120 Curlew, 2 Whimbrel, 37 Shelducks, 1 Dark-bellied Brent Goose and 2 Sand Martins. Four Ravens were in the recycling Centre and a Spotted Flycatcher was calling shortly before 10pm, at Woodbury Castle, just as the first Nightjars were firing up.

The first Broad-leaved Helleborine flower is out - woohooo! Can't wait to see this wonderful orchid in its prime.

This handsome Nightjar is still using its favourite branch.

This family group of Ravens was in the recycling centre yesterday. No sign of the YLG though. Five fluffy Tufted Ducklings on Blackhill Quarry pool and 2 juvenile Moorhens on Bystock were further signs of local breeding success.

Cloaked Minor.

Kent Black Arches.
