Hobby, Migrant Hawker

Small White - lots of these around on Orcombe in the afternoon sun. I photograph an inordinate amount of these in the vain hope that one day I'll get a Southern Small White - a species that is apparently imminent in the UK any day now.

After work on Orcombe - Hobby, c1/200+ mixed flock of Swallow and House Martin, 2 Wheatear, 3 Chiffchaff, 1+ Blackcap, c50+ Meadow Pipit, 1 Goldcrest and 2 Mediterranean Gull.
Yesterday - 2 Ring-necked Parakeet (Bristol Schools), 1 Wheatear, c100+ Meadow Pipit, c20+ Swallow and c5/10+ House Martin.

Red Admirals out in good numbers too along with Painted Ladies, Speckled Woods and Small Coppers.

I've struggled to photograph Migrant Hawker this year so I was pleased that this one paused long enough for me to snap it.

The most gothic-looking moth - Black Rustic.

Beaded Chestnut

Beaded Chestnut and Lunar Underwing - confusion species.

Sallow

Stratospheric Hobby.

Female Common Darter.

  1. Some great insect shots there. Will be passing through Devon this afternoon on the train-always enjoy that stretch by the Exe/Teign.

Hopefully Lorenzo is going to dump some Yanks for me on Scilly!
