Spoonbills

The two immature Spoonbills spent this morning just below the railway line, off Mudbank. Much more regular that they ever used to be, I still get a lot of enjoyment from seeing this species, as I'm sure do most birders. Other counts from Mudbank included 300+ Dunlin, 43 Wigeon, 188 Curlew, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Greenshank, 93 Black-tailed Godwits and 1 Common Sandpiper. Amongst the many waders on Cockle Sands - 5 Ringed Plovers and c25 Sanderling

Just upriver - the female Scaup was still off Sowden Lane along with another 90 Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Red-breasted Mergansers.

Orcombe Point - 4 Lapwing, 1 Chiffchaff and 17 Meadow Pipits. Nearby - 6 Ring-necked Parakeets opposite the Maer long-stay carpark, at first light, and 92 Dark-bellied Brent Geese on Maer Rocks.

A late afternoon look of Shelly Beach revealed c260 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, c15 Teal and 16 Cattle Egrets over Starcross, to roost.
