Green Farm

More post-work birding this afternoon. The flock of 10 Glossy Ibis was finally pinned down in Maer Valley and 4 Ring-necked Parakeets were making a racket nearby. The female Cirl Bunting was in the hedge by the dung heap on Orcombe Pont.
Off Shelly Beach - the 2 Black-necked Grebes distantly, between Cockwood and Starcross. Also off there - 270 Dark-bellied Brent Geese and a single Pale-bellied Brent Goose on Cockle Sands. Nine Red-breasted Mergansers off there too.
Mudbank - 60+ Mallard, 18 Wigeon, 10 Pintail, 1 Greenshank, the juvenile Spoonbill and 80+ Cattle Egrets to roost across the river at 1713.

I had a strong suspicion the Glossy Ibis flock was in the Maer Valley but hadn't got round to giving it a proper search until this afternoon. All ten were in the field just left of the entrance to Green Farm, which is at the Littleham end of Maer Valley, just off Maer Lane. The birds can be viewed from the entrance to the farm or a public footpath that runs from Littleham, all the way through Maer Valley.

Helmeted Guineafowl - feeding in field opposite Prattshayes Farm.

This nice chocolate-brown Buzzard is one I see regularly in Maer Valley.

Good to have the Spoonbill back off Mudbank.

  2. A great video Tom - many thanks. The birds were showing well beside the water treatment works this afternoon. All the best. Matt
