Happy Bees

Blue-tailed Damselfly - female rufescens form (I think).

Exmouth's Pyramidal Orchids are only just on their way...

Small Elephant Hawkmoth.

Common Broomrape (on Clover, I assume).

Tortrix viridana

Green Oak Tortrix Tortrix viridana - three of these in the trap last night, ties in nicely with an apparent large influx into the country. I normally only trap the occasional single. Other immigrant species last night included a dozen or so Silver Ys, a Diamond-back and a couple White-points.

Another dog walk on the local pebbled heaths, with Lu, took us past some gorgeous patches of Heath Spotted Orchids. As usual I felt compelled to photograph a few...

My favourite local patch of Common Spotted Orchids, consisting of c30/40 spikes, is approaching its prime...

Ochreous Pug

Ochreous Pug - a new one for me. No Scots Pine particularly close so it has obviously wandered a little way. Otherwise - more variety than of late and immigrant species - 4 Silver Y, 3 Rusty Dot Pearl and singles of Diamond-back and Rush Veneer. Fantastic to catch up with Nick today. It's been too long!

Off Mudbank today - 1 Greenshank, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Dunlin, 5 Curlew, 8 Whimbrel, 70+ Black-headed Gulls, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Sandwich Terns, 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose and 3 Dark-bellied Brent Geese. Along the seafront - a Reed Warbler was singing from the edge of the cricket pitch.

 Bar-tailed Godwit.

Pale-bellied Brent Goose.

Bog-rush Fanner?

I suspect this 'Glyphipterix' species is G. schoenicolella (Bog-rush Fanner), given its chosen habitat.

Very quiet, as to be expected at this time of year as far as birds go. In the estuary today just 3 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 3 Whimbrel, 4 Sandwich Terns, 2 Sanderling and 50+ Black-headed Gulls.

Pitcher hybrid - Sarracenia flava x Sarracenia sp. Some way off looking its best.

Heath Spotted Orchid.
