Spot Fly

Spotted Flycatcher - the only migrant found on Orcombe Point yesterday morning.

Off Mudbank early this morning - 40 Black-headed Gull, 3 Sanderling, 2 Dunlin and 8 Canada Goose. A first-summer Mediterranean Gull was off the seafront.
Yesterday - 1 Redshank, 2 Whimbrel, c20 Sanderling and a second-summer Mediterranean Gull. A quick early morning visit to Orcombe Point revealed a single Spotted Flycatcher and 12+ Common Scoter offshore.

  1. Lovely photos as usual Matt. No Spotted Flycatcher for me. A formerly common bird here which I don't think breeds in the London area any more. I usually connect with them on return passage August/September but rarely see them in the spring.

  2. Hi Neil - I didn't realise they were that scarce in the London area. We've seen big declines down here although having said that I feel there have been more around in the last year or two. I've bumped in to birds on the edges of the local heathlands on several occasions recently, including a further two this afternoon, and have been getting small numbers on Orcombe in both spring and autumn of late. All the best. Matt
